UTMB ranks 15th of 116 medical centers in Vizient report

The third-period results of the 2023 Vizient Quality and Accountability Study rank UTMB No. 15 among the study’s 116 participating comprehensive academic medical centers.

“Our work across the health system has not gone unnoticed,” said Dr. Gulshan Sharma, senior vice president, and chief medical and clinical innovation officer. “Journey to Zero and AIDET implementation remain essential tools to enhance safety and patient experience, respectively.

"Our focus on appropriate documentation of patient acuity and safe care transitions in the previous months has positively impacted our standings among academic medical centers. Opportunity remains in decreasing revisits within seven days after outpatient arthroscopy, biliary and urological procedures by means of providing appropriate patient instructions and easy access to follow-up visits," he said, adding that UTMB is a “stone’s throw away from regaining our five-star status.”
