Quick work solves patient access issue in League City

In late October, the family of a physical therapy patient contacted the League City Campus parking office regarding overgrown plants that were causing accessibility problems for patients with wheelchairs as they tried to get from the parking garage to the clinic.

Man in suitTa’ Wanda Fuqua, an administrative services coordinator for UTMB Police, quickly alerted Rashmi Nair, senior business coordinator in League City Campus Nursing Administration, who in turn took the problem to Joel Long, the maintenance customer service manager for the League City Campus.

By the next morning, Joel had ensured the foliage was cut, clearing the path from the garage to the clinic. The patient’s family responded with this email:

"Good morning, we the patients are back for therapy this morning after bringing this concern to Ms. Fuqua yesterday in the parking office. We are astounded at the immediate response and action. What a beautiful clear path this made for my handicapped father to travel this morning. We are coming to your facility four times a week for therapy. We have been overwhelmed at the beautiful, well thought out, roomy, well-maintained facility, and it is such a pleasure to be able to drive here from Friendswood for services and not have to go into Houston. We would like to thank each and every person involved in taking action in this matter. This is a very peaceful place.”

Rashmi sent Joel a GEM card for his immediate resolution to the problem, and I think he deserves some kudos.
