Congratulations to GSBS graduate Dr. Julia Bohannon for receiving the Maximizing Investigators’ Research Award (MIRA) from the National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS). Dr. Bohannon is a graduate of the UTMB Microbiology and Immunology Graduate Program and conducted research in the lab of Dr. Tracy Toliver-Kinsky. Dr. Bohannon is an assistant professor of anesthesiology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee, and received her first R01 grant in 2017. Click here to read more.

GSBS alumnus Dr. Thomas George recently received an unexpected 80th birthday gift. Dr. George’s daughter, Caroline George Schaefer, and her husband David made a gift to American University Washington College of Law to create the Thomas W. George Courtroom in honor of Dr. George who is a 1970 an alumnus of American University Washington College of Law and a graduate from the UTMB Medical Humanities Graduate Program. This gift was made to celebrate her father’s eightieth birthday, his esteemed legal and academic career, and his passion for and commitment to AUWCL. Click here to read more.

Jesse Erasmus, PhD, a 2016 Human Pathophysiology and Translational Medicine program graduate, was featured this week in Newsweek. He is currently the director of Virology at HDT Bio, and acting assistant professor at the University of Washington School of Medicine in Seattle. Read more ...

Donna Herrera Bell, a graduate student in the GSBS Graduate Nursing Program, recently gave an oral presentation on Eliminating Barriers to Fertility Discussions at the 47th Annual Oncology Nursing Society Congress in Anaheim, CA. Congratulations to Michelle Nighswander, GSBS Graduate Nursing Program student, on her recently accepted publication in the Journal of School Nursing. The online version will be available by July 2022, and the print version is slated to be published February 2023.
