Dr. Leah Low Named Associate CMO, Jennie Sealy Hospital

Dear Health System family,

I’m very pleased to announce the appointment of Leah Low, MD, MBA, FACP, CHCQM-PhyAdv to the position of Associate Chief Medical Officer of Jennie Sealy Hospital, effective September 1, 2024. Dr. Low is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine and has been with UTMB since 2009.

In her new role, Dr. Low will work closely with me to continue our focus on quality and safety and to ensure that UTMB continues to live up to its promise to provide the right care for the right patient at the right time in the right setting for the best possible outcome—our commitment to excellence and Best Care.

Dr. Low earned her medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch in 2006 and completed her residency in Internal Medicine in 2009, also at UTMB. She has a keen interest in quality, utilization management, and physician advisory services. She has served as Lead Physician Advisor since 2017, a role that has given her vast experience and exposure to revenue cycle, contracting, and institutional compliance. Her interest in the business of healthcare led her to obtain a Master of Business Administration from Rice University in 2022.

Personally, UTMB and the Galveston community are very special to Dr. Low. Her family has a long history in Galveston and the surrounding area. While she is not a “BOI”, her father and her children are.

“I was born in Corpus Christi but spent many weekends and holidays in the area,” she told me. “I moved to Galveston for UTMB medical school, met my husband, and never left!  UTMB and Galveston are home, so this is a huge honor for me.”

In her spare time, Dr. Low enjoys being outside most—hiking and gardening. She and her family are big Chicago Cubs fans and enjoy watching games at Wrigley Field. Maybe we can convince her to root for the Astros.

But even if not, please join me in congratulating Dr. Low on her new role within the UTMB Health System.

Regards,

Gulshan Sharma, MD, MPH, FCCP
Senior Vice President, Chief Medical and Clinical Innovation Officer
