  • Bennie O. White, MD and Irene C. White Scholarship

    The Bennie O. White, MD, and Irene C. White Scholarship was established by family and friends of Bennie O. (Pappy) and Irene C. (Mimi) White to provide perpetual support for a scholarship for medical students. Dr. White was a 1934 alumnus of The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, and Mrs. White was a faithful supporter of Dr. White's practice. The award is based on superior academic aptitude and given to a student who has completed the third year of medical studies and who has a declared interest in family practice.

  • WD and Laura Nell Nicholson Award in Family Medicine

    The W.D. and Laura Nell Nicholson Award in Family Medicine was established in 1973 as the Dr. W.D. Nicholson Scholarship Award by Clark Vetterling of Colorado to honor his family physician. In 1998, W.D. Nicholson's son, Dr. Dan Nicholson, increased the award and, with Clark Vetterling renamed it the W.D. and Laura Nell Nicholson Scholarship Award. In 2002, Dr. Nicholson updated the name of the award to reflect its focus on family medicine. The award is given to a student who has completed the third year in medical school and who is interested in family medicine as a career goal. Academic excellence is also considered.

  • Weldon G. Kolb, M.D. Scholarship

    The Weldon G. Kolb, MD, Medical Student Scholarship was the first scholarship created by the Texas Academy of Family Physicians (TAFP) Foundation twenty years ago. It was established to honor TAFP Past President Dr. Weldon G. Kolb who practiced in La Marque for over 45 years. Dr. Kolb was a graduate of The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston (UTMB Health) and served as president of the Galveston County Medical Society. He was president of the TAFP Foundation for nine years.

    The scholarship is given to a medical student or students from UTMB Health who meet high academic standards and express an interest in pursuing a career in family medicine. 

    The Kolb Scholarship has been awarded to medical students who have all gone on to family medicine residencies or to practice family medicine.

    Students interested in this scholarship should submit an application by the deadline below. Applications should be submitted according to the instructions on the application.
