Thanks to UTMB Health Family Medicine Research Federal Work Study Student, Leonard Wang, 50 flu/winter kits for Vietnamese fishermen will be distributed at the Docside Clinic this week and in the weeks to come. This project was part of his Osler Student Scholar Special Project from the John P. McGovern Academy of Oslerian Medicine. Congratulations Leonard, and thank you for your efforts to create more equitable solutions for under-reached populations! The grant supported materials for 50 kits which included Theraflu, Emergen-C packets, Mucinex, Advil, cough drops, hand sanitizers, condoms, hand warmers, socks, gloves, and hats. The items were all packed in a UTMB Family Medicine waterproof dry bag. “Many of the fishermen we work with have limited access to healthcare among other barriers to their health, so we hope that these kits will help them stay healthy and warm”, says Wang.
