We are proud to announce that PGY-3 resident, Dr. Abdullah Shuaib recently received the Arnold P. Gold Foundation Humanism and Excellence in Teaching Award (HETA) and presented to him at an event hosted by the University of Texas Medical Branch John P. McGovern Chapter of The Arnold P. Gold Foundation Gold Humanism Honor Society. The ceremony was held at UTMB Health's Levin Hall Dining Room on Thursday, February 13th, 2025.

On Tuesday, February 11, 2025, Family Medicine Researcher, Dr. Wei-Chen Lee hosted the 2025 United Nations Interfaith Annual Event at the First Lutheran Church, in Galveston, TX as part of mini grant she received from Humanities Texas.

On October 10th UTMB Health's FMIG officers, family medicine faculty, residents and staff offered the future doctors of tomorrow a window into the scope of family medicine as a practice and a first hand glimpse into our department with their annual hands on workshop the PCP at the PCP. The UTMB Health Family Medicine Medicine Interest Group (FMIG) secured a 6th year-in-a-row AAFP Program of Excellence Award and were acknowledged at the AAFP National Conference in Kansas City.

Saturday, May 18th 2024 marked the 7th collaboration among regional Family Medicine Residency Programs where residents presented their scholarly works in the form of Case Reports, Evidence-Based Reviews, Quality Improvement Projects or Original Research. The programs in attendance were Methodist, Memorial Hermann, Baylor, UT Health - Houston and UTMB Health

Thursday, April 18, 2024 was the UTMB Health Residency Programs annual retreat held at the UTMB Health Health Education Center (HEC). Every year at the retreat the new Chief Residents are announced. Congratulations to Sean Bray, MD, MS and Dylan E. Bridwell, DO, MS on their upcoming new roles.

On Thursday, February 29th, 2024 the UTMB Health Department of Family Medicine hosted the 3rd Annual Women's Health Workshop, a collaboration between the Award Winning Family Medicine Interest Group (FMIG) and the Obstetrics Gynecology Student Society (OGSS).

We are very thrilled to announce that on March 19, 2024, by majority vote, the FY2024 John P. McGovern Posthumous Award in Oslerian Medicine will be bestowed to Dr. Jamal Islam during the Osler Club meeting.

On Thursday, February 16th, 2023 the UTMB Health Department of Family Medicine hosted the 2nd Annual Women's Health Workshop, a collaboration between the Family Medicine Interest Group (FMIG) and the Obstetrics Gynecology Student Society (OGSS).

Dr. Shannon Guillot-Wright is Vice Chair of Research and Health Policy in the Department of Family Medicine, and Health Policy Research Director at the Center for Violence Prevention was recently awarded a $660,000 grant from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control funding a 5yr research project to address health disparities for commercial fishermen and to bring medical professionals to the fishing docks to provide primary care services.

Thanks to UTMB Health Family Medicine Research Federal Work Study Student, Leonard Wang, 50 flu/winter kits for Vietnamese fishermen will be distributed at the Docside Clinic this week and in the weeks to come.
