The CEHD is working to streamline collection of Race, Ethnicity and Language (REAL) data through the use of electronic medical records (EMR) at UTMB.
- Step 1 is to develop a process to ensure input into these data fields is not skipped by nurses during the patient registration process.
- Step 2 is to use our more comprehensive data set (with REAL data fields now completed) to analyze and identify health disparities that result in inequities in health status and health care.
- Step 3 is to develop specific interventions to enhance hospital management as well as to improve hospital performance, which will help eliminate these inequities.
This project is funded by the Texas 1115 Medicaid Waiver, which provides incentive payments for health care improvements that serve large numbers of uninsured patients.
