Taglialatela, Giulio, PhD

Giulio Taglialatela , PhD, is the Vice President of Brain Health at UTMB and Director of the Moody Brain Health Institute. He earned his PhD in pharmacology from the University of Rome La Sapienza and has spent over three decades advancing research on neurodegenerative diseases, particularly Alzheimer’s. Since joining UTMB in 1993, he has played a pivotal role in neuroscience research and leadership, previously serving as Director of the Mitchell Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases and interim Dean of the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences. Under his leadership, UTMB's neuroscience research at the Mitchell Center has secured over $41 million in funding from the National Institutes of Health and other organizations.

Dr. Taglialatela has published over 100 peer-reviewed papers and delivered invited talks at national and international conferences. His research is currently supported by multiple NIH R01 grants, focusing on the molecular mechanisms of Alzheimer’s disease. In addition to his research, he is a dedicated educator and mentor, training graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and junior faculty. He also leads UTMB’s Neuroscience Summer Undergraduate Research Program and contributes to medical and graduate education. Through his work in research, teaching, and leadership, Dr. Taglialatela continues to shape the future of brain health at UTMB.
