The Biochemistry, Cellular, and Molecular Biology (BCMB) Graduate Program at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) in Galveston provides a dynamic environment for advancing knowledge and innovation in the wide domain of life sciences. Through a comprehensive curriculum, BCMB students gain expertise in state-of-the-art technologies, critical analysis, and effective communication. Our program emphasizes discovery-driven research and practical skill development, empowering graduates to tackle complex biological challenges and succeed in a wide range of professional fields.

Our program currently supports over 40 doctoral students, which are guided by 20 primary faculty members and 39 affiliate faculty that serve as PhD thesis advisors. Research within the program spans a wide range of biomedical challenges and physical scales, from atomic-level description of protein and nucleic acid structure and interaction to the 3D organization of the genome and transcription, as well as stem cell research, aging, cancer, infectious diseases, toxicology, and wound healing. By applying multidisciplinary approaches and employing some of the most advanced instrumentation available today, our students tackle complex scientific questions in the fields of biochemistry, cell biology, molecular biology, systems biology, mass spectrometry, and structural biology. We invite you to explore our website to learn more about our research, curriculum, and the vibrant student community within the BCMB graduate program.
