Dr. Vicki S. Freeman is a Professor in the Department of Clinical Laboratory Sciences in the School of Health Professions at UTMB. Her educational background includes a PhD in Community and Human Resources and a MA in Adult and Continuing Education from
University of Nebraska-Lincoln as well as a BS in Medical Technology and a BA in Biochemistry from The University of Texas at Austin. She holds national certifications as a medical technologist with a specialty in chemistry with the American Society
for Clinical Pathology and as a clinical laboratory scientist with the National Credentialing Agency for Laboratory Professionals. Believing that every individual should be given the opportunity to advance their knowledge in their chosen profession,
Dr. Freeman has been involved in developing multiple educational avenues in clinical laboratory sciences education. She has expanded CLS educational opportunities through the use of special delivery methods such as interactive video teleconferencing
and web-based courses (WebCLS) for students in rural and under-served areas, as well as those on campus. Her goal for the distance learning programs is to provide remote students with the same quality educational opportunities as those students on
campus. Dr. Freeman has been the recipient of numerous honors. Some of these include the Excellence in Education Associate Member Award given by the American Society for Clinical Pathology, the Kendall Professional Achievement Award presented by the
American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science, the Texas Educator of the Year Award by the Texas Society for Clinical Laboratory Science, the Outstanding Leader and the Outstanding Contributions to Continuing Education Awards in the School of Allied
Health Sciences at UTMB, and the Outstanding Teacher Award from the University of Nebraska Medical Center.
