Dr. Shinu Joy is an Assistant professor at The University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas. She shares responsibility as course coordinator for Adult Health 2, a second-semester didactic and clinical course. She is also the Health Education Center Liaison/Content Expert for the undergraduate nursing program.
Dr. Joy has a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from West Texas A&M University, a Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Texas Medical Branch, and a Doctor of Nursing Practice from Grand Canyon University. Her certifications include nursing professional development (NPD-BC) and oncology certified nurse (OCN).
Dr. Joy has worked in various nursing settings such as medical-surgical, ambulatory clinic, post-anesthesia care, and infusion clinic, with expertise in oncology for the past 15 years. Her professional affiliations include Oncology Nursing Society, Houston Chapter Oncology Nursing Society, Association for Nursing Profession Development – Houston Affiliate, American Nurses Association, and Sigma Theta Tau Nursing Honor Society (Alpha Delta Chapter).
Dr. Joy is the recipient of the Texas Organization of Baccalaureate and Graduate School of Nursing Education Research Award in 2020 and AMT July 2024 Educator of the Month. Her current research interests include innovations in nursing education, evaluation of student success, and oncology. She has collaborated with inter and intra-professionals on various innovative projects to improve clinical judgment in nurses and students. Dr. Joy is passionate about discovering ways to utilize technology to enhance student learning, ultimately impacting patient and community outcomes.
Dr. Joy was inducted into the Academy of Master Teachers in 2024.
