Dr. Sarah Samreen is an assistant professor in the Department of Surgery at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB), Galveston TX. In her educational role, she is the Co-Director of the medical student Surgery Clerkship and clinical core faculty for the surgery residency program. She is also the Director of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery at the University of Texas Medical Branch.

Dr. Samreen earned her Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from the Aga Khan University Medical College in Karachi, Pakistan. She completed her internship at Berkshire Medical Center in Berkshire, Massachusetts, and completed her residency in General Surgery at the Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, Pennsylvania where she was an Administrative Chief Resident. She accomplished her Advanced GI, Minimally Invasive, and Bariatric Surgery fellowship at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska.

Dr. Samreen is passionate about surgical education. She is actively involved in undergraduate and postgraduate clinical teaching at a local and national level. In addition, to clinical teaching, she teaches robotic technical skill courses. Dr. Samreen is a member of the Association of Women Surgeons, the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, and the American College of Surgeons.

Dr. Samreen was inducted into the Academy of Master Teachers in 2024.
