Dr. Ruth E. Levine is the Clarence Ross Miller Professor of Psychiatry and Internal Medicine and Associate Dean for Student Affairs and Admissions in the School of Medicine at UTMB. She has been a faculty member since 1991. In addition to her administrative and teaching responsibilites, Dr. Levine maintains an established outpatient practice within the Psychiatry department with a specific interest in mood and anxiety disorders. Dr. Levine is also a certified therapist in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy since 1995. She was born in Albany, New York. Her bachelor's degree in Liberal Arts was received from the University of Texas in 1983 when she graduated with honors. Her Doctorate of Medicine was received from UTMB in 1987. Dr. Levine completed a one-year internship in Internal Medicine at UTMB, followed by a three-year psychiatric residency at Boston University's School of Medicine. Dr. Levine was the director of undergraduate education in the department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Science from 1995-2013. In 2013, she became the Assistant Dean for Educational Affairs and the Director of the Office of Clinical Education at UTMB. In 2018, she became the Associate Dean for Student Affairs and Admissions. Dr. Levine is active in a number of regional, national and international organization. She has a committee member for the National Board of Medical Examiners and the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. She is the past president of the Team-Based Learning Collaborative, has served as a regional director and advisory board member for the AAMC Leadership in Education and Development (LEAD) certification program. She is currently the Associate editor for the TBL resources for the AAMC Journal MedEdPORTAL.

Dr. Levine has been the recipient of numerous honors. Some of these have included Nancy C.A. Roeske Award given by the American Psychiatric Association, The "Class of 1947" Award for Excellence in Education, The Dean's Award for Teaching Achievement at UTMB, the Gender Equity Award presented by UTMB's student branch of the American Medical Women's Association, and the medical student teaching award presented by the UTMB Department of Psychiatry. She is a member of the University of Texas Kenneth I. Shine Academy and a recipient of the Regents' Outstanding Teaching Award. Her scholarly contributions are numerous and include articles in peer-reviewed journals, chapters, books, educational materials, abstracts and professional presentations.
