John C. Hagedorn II, M.D. is an Orthopaedic Trauma Surgeon at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas. Dr. Hagedorn currently is an Associated Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Rehabilitation and serves as the Chief of Orthopaedic Trauma for the UTMB Health System and is the Orthopaedic Residency Program Director. Before joining UTMB Dr. Hagedorn completed medical school and residency at West Virginia University and fellowship in Orthopaedic Trauma at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston, Texas. During his career Dr. Hagedorn has taken education seriously participating in both local and international educational opportunities. Dr. Hagedorn’s educational highlights include multiple invitations to teach other residents at AO and Orthopaedic Trauma Association (OTA) courses, being invited to be an co-editor of the OTA Core Curriculum, chairing the UTMB Orthopaedic surgery curriculum committee, having multiple UTMB JSSOM elective course, and being on the steering committee for the international AO trauma journal club. Dr. Hagedorn’s educational efforts have been recognized over his career with faculty appointments with the AO Foundation and awards including WVU Resident Educator of the years, the UTMB Family Medicine Residency Specialty Faculty of the Year, Family Medicine Teaching Award, and Excellence in Clinical Teaching Award from the UTMB John P. McGovern Academy of Oslerian Medicine. Dr. Hagedorn credits his passion for teaching coming from his journey in the Boy Scouts to the Eagle Scout rank, teaching lifeguard and EMT classes early in his life.

Dr. Hagedorn was inducted into the Academy of Master Teachers in 2024.
