Flavio Marconi Lemos Monteiro, Ed.D. serves as Senior Medical Educator and Adjunct Associate Professor of Family Medicine in the John Sealy School of Medicine (JSSOM) Office of Educational Development (OED) at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) at Galveston, since June 18, 2018. He is responsible for the faculty development efforts of the OED. With the other medical educators in the OED, he participates in planning and implementing faculty development training activities in support of the JSSOM undergraduate curriculum and in providing educational consultation to departments and programs across the JSSOM and UTMB as needed. Currently he co-directs the 2021-2023 Scholars in Education Program, a faculty development program sponsored by the Office of Educational Development in the John Sealy School of Medicine. He also directs the Coaching and Professionalism Program (CAPP) for the JSSOM, a program designed to assist students in the MD and PA programs to reflect upon professionalism in health professions education.

Prior to coming to UTMB, Dr. Monteiro served as Associate Professor and Vice President for Academic Affairs at Baptist University of the Américas (BUA) in San Antonio, Texas. He also worked as medical educator and faculty development specialist at Baylor College of Medicine, the University of Texas-Houston Medical School, Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine, Duke University Medical Center, and at the Family Practice Faculty Development Center of Texas.

Dr. Monteiro obtained his Doctor of Education degree from Baylor University in Waco, Texas in 1994, majoring in Educational Psychology. Also from Baylor University he received a Master of Arts degree in Religion (1991) and a Master of Science in Education degree in Educational Psychology (1985). He graduated from the Federal University of Pernambuco, Brazil (1979) with a Psychologist degree, and from the North Brazil Baptist Theological Seminary (1978) with a Bachelor of Theology degree.

Dr. Monteiro was inducted into the Academy of Master Teachers in 2024.
