Dr. Wiggs does not believe in "sponge" education. When overfilled a sponge begins to leak. Very little is contained, if connections are not achieved. Dr. Wiggs strives to use teaching methodologies that empower learners to be self-sufficient and accountable for their own learning. To best exemplify this she believes in collaborative learning. Collaborative learning connects with the changes she instituted in the RN-BSN curriculum to correlate with the leadership competences demanded of the professional nurse by the Institute of Medicine, the Joint Commission and the American Academy of Colleges of Nursing for meeting the challenges of nursing for the next millennium.
Dr. Wiggs has been the recipient of numerous honors including induction into Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing where she has served on both chapter and International committees, Mary Alice Metcalf Outstanding Doctoral Student at Texas Woman's University, and Outstanding Faculty for the RN-BSN Track in the UTMB School of Nursing.
