You know about alt text, now learn how to write better alt text
Previous days of accessibility have covered topics such as how to write alt text and the best practices for writing alt text
There's a difference between just filling in a few words of description and writing good alt text. The good news, is with some practice, we can make our text better and more informative for the folks who use it.
Let's consider the image we looked at on Day 46:
What would be good alt text for this image?
- Good: "A group of women"
- Better: "A group of women standing around a table"
- Best: "A group of women of all ages collaborating at a work table"
The good alt text describes the basics of the scene, the best alt
text includes the basic description plus context; we get the additional
information "of all ages" and what they are doing "collaborating at a
work table."
