Day 50: Part 2: Good, Better, Best

Today we're continuing to learn about writing the best alt text possible.

Consider this image:

A small girl smiling in a hospital bed while holding a stuffed bear a bandage around his head

What would be good alt text for this image?

  • Good: "A small girl"
  • Better: "A small girl in bed"
  • Best: "A small girl smiling in a hospital bed while holding a stuffed bear with a bandaged head"

The good alt text describes the basics of the scene, the best alt text includes the basic description plus context; we get the additional information "in a hospital bed" and includes the context that she's "smiling" and that she's "holding a stuffed bear a bandage around his head." The additional context paints a much better picture of the mood of the photo.
