Day 28: American Sign Language (ASL)

ASL is a language used by people with hearing loss where meaning is communicated via gestures and facial expressions. ASL is not simply signed English, it has its own grammar, sentence structure, etc. and is used in the United States.  Other countries have their own signed languages; there are more than 300 different kinds!

Learn more about signed languages at National Geographic.
